For over forty years, Gilles Olry has painted and drawn with an earthy spirit that has never been denied. His production is free and abundant. His rich and quirky universe is in constant effervescence, as much by the subjects chosen as by inventive formal research. Seemingly light and spontaneous, Gilles Olry’s painting questions and denounces this incessant flow of images that surround us. With a spirit as amused as it is fierce in derision, he plays on appearances and the true meaning of things by a permanent play of double meanings and double grounds. So, the artist skillfully questions what makes sense. Gilles Olry, in a cathartic way, calls on in his practice our ability to assess the fair value of things in a feeling of jubilant excitement. Born in 1956 in Saint Germain en Laye (France) lives and works in Corbére (Eastern Pyrenees). Gilles Olry's works are part of numerous private art collections in France and abroad. He is represented by the Odile Oms gallery in Céret (France).
